• Hoe annual weeds that have risen and appeared in vegetable patches or perennial beds
• Divide perennials and move into flowering positions

• Trim Lavender to keep it compact and bushy, using a good pair of sharp secateurs will ensure you keep a defined shape

• Tie in climbers so that they do not get tangled as they grow
• Sow Sweet Peas, Nasturtiums, Ipomea and Thunbergia for Summer colour

Tip

Look out for Lily Beetle this time of year. They are bright red in colour and they devour the foliage on Lilies and Fritillaries weakening the plants.

To prevent damage spray with a good systemic insecticide, always reading the instructions for use on the label.

These beetles can be very clever as they fall to the ground and lay upside down on the soil, becoming camouflaged before continuing their damage. Therefore always ensure you return to the plant and re-check for their presence.
