August Gardening Tips 1st August 2025 Continue to plant Climbers for late summer colour. Deadhead Roses before the blooms fade. Continue spraying for insects (Aphids) and spray roses for Mildew Rust and Blackspot. Continue to pick Cucumbers, Tomatoes and Peppers. Take cuttings of Escallonia and cistus and any other evergreen shrubs. Sow Parsley under glass for winter use. Plant Autumn Heathers for late summer and winter colour. Summer prune some fruit trees including Peach and Nectarine. Pick early Apple and Pears. Pick Sweetcorn. Plant Hardy Fuchsias for late summer colour. Divide Chives. Continue to water and feed hanging baskets and containers. Sow Spring Cabbages, Winter Lettuces, Brussell Sprouts. Apply weedkillers to paths and patios. On hot days top up water features and ponds allow for evaporation. Continue to plant summer bedding and large pot perennials for additional autumn colour. Protect Raspberries from birds apply netting. Continue to hoe borders. Use selective weedkillers on lawns.
