As the Autumn starts to descend upon us, start to winter proof your garden.
Cover tender plants with fleece (offers available at the garden centre).
Plant Tulips, Alliums, Daffodils, and Crocus.
Plant Hippeastrum (Amaryllis). Available from October November for Christmas flowering. Also don’t forget prepared Hyacinths for winter colour indoors.
Move tender plants into the greenhouse or frost free areas. Remove any old foliage to prevent mould.
Plant winter flowering Violas, Pansies, and Heathers into containers and hanging baskets. (If you do not have time we have a ready to go selection available.)
Plant Autumn onion sets and Garlic.
Prune back roses after flowering. (Especially climbing varieties.)
Sow Sweet Peas, and Broad Beans.
Continue to plant hedging and evergreen autumn colour shrubs.
Autumn feed your lawn (see offers in store).
Prune fruit trees use products to seal the wounds Arbrex pruning compound. And grease bands to stop overwintering pests laying their eggs in the trees causing problems later on.
Continue to feed the birds encourage them to stay and feed all Winter.
Feed Olive trees with seaweed with iron based foods. (Especially if they are yellowing.)
